  I understood the interview. The gentleman was prepared to be the tip of the spear. &nbsp;This requires a mind which is willing to learn and flexibility. &nbsp;He is not a robot. &nbsp;In interviews like this, he is not asked about the people who support him in the field. &nbsp;He has the utmost respect for the roomful of analysts that he made reference to. &nbsp; His support people are professionals. &nbsp;They are largely unsung. I met many of them.<br><br>Hack Hackworth wrote me and observed that to be an effective officer in the field, you needed 9 years as an enlisted man.<br><br>If you ever fortunate to find the writhing of Lt. Co. John Masters of the British Army, he described his training in a Ghurka unit as an officer in pre-WW2 India. &nbsp;He wanted to be a stud . . . and found out that he was routinely assigned, for stretches of doing the logistics, planning and then leading of the unit. &nbsp;All of that exposure he says he appreciated when he led troops into combat. &nbsp;The interviewee constantly received that type of exposure at the level of being the tip of the spear.

  SAW gunner in the infantry a lifetime ago. It was fun. 1 deployment. Back surgery. That was my awesome career. Been a working musician ever since. Performing is way cooler. I can’t even relate to this stuff anymore.

  You have an agency rep for each agency. You know them by name and number.<br>They will get you ANYTHING… you need. And I do mean ANYTHING.<br>Even a tier one squad dropped from a C130 if you need it.<br>They can move the world for you if they are any good.<br>And always have your back no matter where you are in the world.
