Larry is the man. I grew up reading Shotgun News (now Firearm News) as a kid, dating myself, so I could listen to Larry talk guns all day. Ian @ Forgotten Weapons as well.

I am fortunate enough to own a suppressed HK416, and it’s such fun gun to shoot in a tactical bay. It literally does not stop going, ejects clean and never jammed for me. A little front end heavy but nothing crazy.

And the Marine Corps loved the HK 416 so much it became the M27.

HK wanted you to donate the rifles and test them, because they wanted you to have skin in the game. Much better than to come to you cold to sell the idea.
Very smart.

Larry Vickers was sentenced on September 3, 2026 — just over two weeks ago — to one year of probation and a $500 fine. No prison time.

I’ve always been blown away by the way the Army treated Eugene Stoner over the M16, and then Colt made a series of mistakes. But Stoner kept going with the AR-18 and its short-stroke piston system.

Seeing how smoothly HK and Mr. Vickers got approval makes me glad the Army is making it easier for good ideas to come to life.
