  I love that they use the 4 corners of the earth to defend the idea that the Earth is flat... and round for some reason?

  If you're a fundamentalist, young earth creationist, but believe in a spherical earth, you've taken the first step down the slippery slope to damnation!  Funny how Hovind and Ham don't make this argument . . .

  What’s more “data over dogma” than changing your mind with new data? I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t change their mind or who gives other people flack for changing their mind. Some people confuse unmoving conviction with credibility

  As you two were discussing the many ways Matthew&apos;s &apos;2 animal Jesus limousine&apos; can be resolved, I just kept thinking: <br><br>So, a maximally great being with perfect knowledge of our limitations, the benevolent incentive and power to communicate unambiguously, individually, and instantaneously with each of its creatures has, instead, chosen to communicate the most important message any of us will ever hear through a book so prone to error, internal contradiction, and ambiguity that there is still no unified consensus on exactly what that message is or how to faithfully interpret it.<br><br>I am, again, astounded I ever believed the Bible represented an inerrant, perfect message from a deity.

  &quot;Opportunities for Growth&quot; is a great concept to explore on this show! (but maybe find a better tagline, Bart Ehrman has &quot;outsmart Bart&quot;)<br>Anyway, I think it&apos;s a great idea to model a willingness to admit when you might be wrong, acknowledge room for disagreement, share examples of updating your views when new evidence comes to light, or arguments that better explain the evidence are presented.<br>You could do the same during interviews of other scholars, or when discussing the scholarly consensus, showing how views evolved as new evidence and arguments come to light. <br><br>Some may feel this undermines the &quot;authority&quot; of scholarship, but it fits several major principles underlying scholarship, like the idea that the Bible doesn&apos;t just speak with one voice, and the idea that &quot;a plain reading&quot; is pretty much impossible because we all approach it with certain assumptions, but the best reading is one informed by what we can know about the historical context, uncertainty arising from how ancient languages are translated, or from textual variants, and so on...

  That entire NASA thing and Dan&apos;s explanation of that entire stupidity shows how complicated Hebrew is. &nbsp;The fact these people who believe these conspiracy theories are based on some &quot;if you squint your eyes real hard&quot; connection between how written English and written Hebrew look is sad and hilarious.<br><br>Language is speaking, not writing. &nbsp;People forget that. &nbsp;Writing is just some random written squiggles that a group of people decide represents a sound. &nbsp;Even in language families, they sometimes look vastly different (Greek, Cyrillic Russian and English for example), even if and when a sound is the same (which is how we can kinda see how Russian is pronounced when it is written Romanized.) &nbsp;Then sometimes, you get a complete random coinicidence that the same sounding word meaning the same thing, like with the famous example of both an African language and English saying dog and it meaning dog (or words written the same, sounding the same and having complete different meaning like lisa for Example meaning smooth or plain in Spanish and a proper name in English.)<br><br>On another note, the rise of flat-earthers seems to correspond directly with the rise of the tea party in the U.S. which was largely led by fundamentalist Christians. &nbsp;It could be a coincidence, but I think it has merits.

  If you think flat earthers display any understanding of anything resembling science and mathematics, you do not have any understanding of science and mathematics.
