I'm an Aussie and I had no idea where the "oi oi oi" thing came from! I'm so glad I know now... Also, I really loved learning about the local myths.

I lived in London in the early 80's. There was a bakery next to my tube station and I'd buy one of these for breakfast. I haven't been back in years, but I still yell "Oi!" When my dogs are getting into mischief

In Michigan we love pasties. Especially up North in our Upper Peninsula. We have Cornish ancestry that brought these delights to us.

My Cornish Grandmother made them a bit different and taught all of us. She used parsley, too. The story she told about the crimp is that each area had their own identifiable artistic crimp. You knew who'd made it based upon the crimp.
Our pasties are made with the crimp across the top, and there is no waste as it's formed by pulling up the sides of an oval shaped dough and then pressed between the hands.
They look like little dinosaurs with the crimp across the top.😄

This is one of the best recipe videos I've seen. He described everything perfectly, he had the care to convert de temperatures for the oven, he gave the awesome tips of the windy pasty and egg wash... outstanding cook, but outstanding presenter too.

I live in eastern Europe but grew up in Oz. Sorely miss pies & pasties. And yes, I recall learning the pastie form was so miners could have a decent meal with only their hands and in such conditions. Oi, oi, oi, thank you!🎉

In the 1800s there was a large community of miners and their families in California who'd come from Cornwall after many tin and copper mines had failed. Their expertise in deep underground hard-rock mining was needed here for gold mining in granite. Some of their descendants are still here, and many years ago my mom and I had our first pasty at a pasty shop started by the proprietor's great-grandfather. It wouldn't be the last, as I bought some he sold frozen and unbaked, and I immediately set about figuring out how to copy them as best I could. I can't claim they were authentic, or as wonderfully delicious as yours clearly are, but IMHO, they were pretty delicious. Thank you very much very for showing me how they're properly done!!
