Everybody knows exactly what you'll be using that 100kg payload for.

Don't kill yourself - I like your vids.

a broken propeller fixed with superglue sounds like a terrible accident waiting to happen...

I'm just glad to see you back. I remember you were a young boy now a man. Good to see you haven't lost your creative fire. Keep up the great work and we will keep watching.. GOOD STUFF!!!

Hey, I've already built one of these. The KEY factor for stability here is your flight controller mounting. Make sure it is firmly mounted to the frame even if you add vibration dampeners. The flight controller shouldn't be able to move when you slightly nudge them. So I used foam padding for vibration dampening and firmly secured the flight controller with zip ties. Mine flies great.

coming from flying heavy lift drones + vtols for years: you really need to be using a telemetry radio – and adjust the PID tune while in the air. Ardupilot really is a piece of hobby software, I've found PX4 Autopilot to be much more reliable. Once you get the drone into a reasonable hover without death wobble, you should be able to put it in autotune which will give you almost a perfect tune. With large drones vibrations is a huge issue and the biggest way to combat that is actually making your frame as stiff as possible (want to reduce the delay between the drone doing something and the flight controller seeing that change) – may want to consider getting carbon plates made for your body from send cut send (actually pretty inexpensive). Good Luck!

Most control loops are setup for 10" - 2" props. The inertia in the motors and props of large quads cause them to act much differently than the smaller ones. Just a reminder that those props could easily be life enders.

Might be worth putting some propeller guards around those bad boys. 1- it might save them from damage during lighter (more frequent) hits against the ground, and 2- it might save you and others from a flying propeller in more severe events.

I work with big drones 150-400kg takeoff weight. The oscillation is almost definitely being partially caused by the mounting of the flight controller. You need to hard mount it directly to the frame. These pixhawk flight controllers already take care of vibrations internally (unless you have really big vibrations, but then you have other problems). The internal vibration isolation coupled with your vibration isolation can result in some funky vibrations that the FC interprets as movements of the actual copter.

The other reason is almost definitely your frame flex. You’ve stiffened the arms side to side, but you’ll likely need to do this up and down too. Should help with the oscillations too.

Keep working on it though, big drones are way more complex than small drones. Keen to see the next video!

I'd set the I-gains to zero or something very very low, set some nominal P-gain, and dial up the D-gain until controllable. Then more P, more D (haha), repeat until desired performance or you get an over-tune then back off a bit. Then clean up any remaining slop with a little more I-gain. Excited for part 2!

Just a heads up, but there is a reason why the FAA doesn’t allow props to be repaired. The repair has an extremely high likelihood of failing, close to 100%, which means that the glued on part becomes a deadly projectile.

Part of the issue may be the air ground effect downwash. Many times, larger vehicles that hover tend to do it at a predetermined height above ground level to prevent hovering instabilities due to downwash lift loss. Just a thought 🤔
