The only problem - and it is a major one - with Alan Walker's lectures is that they come to an end. This beautiful one, in particular, which leads us closer and closer to Liszt's very Being.

Wonderful to see and hear Alan Walker. He talks as well as he writes. None has ever done either better so far as Liszt is concerned.

At 8:27 I had the privilege of shaking the hand of Artur Rubinstein in 1971, which featured those pads you spoke of here. I was a 17 year old piano student instructed from the school of Liszt with hands large enough to crawl 10ths, only to find Artur's fingers wrapping around in substantial excess of mine. Strangest hand I ever shook, and I made sure not to squeeze such a national treasure more than politely.

Génie oblige was the motto Franz Liszt lived by and made him standout from other musicians and composers. Let's face it, many of them were a bit self-obsessed by comparison. This lecture mentions many examples of how this informed Liszt's life. Excellent lecture from Alan Walker.
