The albinos are stronger because in order to survive when genetics are stacked against you, you have to be an exceptionally tough and battlehardened individual.

There is at least one exception. Gorris, the sapient albino deathclaw, was smaller and had less health than the other members of his kin.

My theory has always been that albino creatures having such a disadvantage in nature means the ones you encounter had to fight harder to survive, so are stronger than the normal variants.

Perhaps the large amount of albinism in Fallout could also be attributed to nuclear winter? With a lot of snow and a lack of sunlight, having pale skin and sensitive eyes would be less of a burden. I know nuclear winter had already passed by the time the game takes place in, but the albino populations wouldn't disappear overnight. What we're seeing are probably the remnants of those populations who were most capable of surviving to adulthood.

fun fact: some of the animals around Chernobyl (frogs in particular, iirc) are much darker in colouration than their non-irradiated counterparts elsewhere. they've evolved to have much higher levels of melanin because it protects against more radiation types than just UV radiation. animals that had more melanin were more likely to survive the radioactive environment.

which makes albinism being so common in Fallout kind of ironic, since you'd expect to see the exact opposite (hyper-pigmented creatures that are more resistant to radiation).

It could be that the majority of "albino" creatures are actually leucistic. Aka they're not completely albino and don't suffer from all of the effects of albinism.

In real life many creatures that live underground lack pigment and i noticed alot of the creatures in Fallout that are albino would likely spend some time underground/in caves. I always kinda assumed that the albino creatures in Fallout were members of the species that had spent a long time living underground to hide from the rampant radiation above ground and have only recently come back up top

I think it actually has to do with the nature of the FEV- if these creatures have adapted to radiation, albanism might actually be a beneficial adaptation, allowing the organism to absorb more radiation, and become "stronger". It would explain the abundance of albanism if it was a trait that benefitted survival in the radioactive wasteland.
