  Bloody hell, even kids on communes in the middle of nowhere have gaming addictions. I feel like letting her son spend all day online because he is so bored with no friends is not a healthy way to raise him, is in fact, the complete opposite of what she is trying to achieve by raising him out there.

  I can't imagine being that isolated AND being on your phone as a kid. That's messed up seeing the world out there with all the same brain rot and comparisons while being even more isolated

  okay so what's fucked in the head for me is, the parents that moved there know how to read and write. They didn't sit with their kid every day and teach them how to read and write? You don't even need to outsource that. That is a form of neglect. Everyone should know how to write, no matter what path in life you take.

  I really feel for the kids, especially the 12 year old who doesn’t appear to have a way out currently. None of the parents strike me as especially informed or insightful; It felt rather like listening to teenagers explaining their rebellion. I hope positive change comes their way.

  I get what Tamsin is saying  - like I’d rather deal with less existential challenges too, obviously, but I guess when you’ve got a kid maybe it’s not fair to make decisions based on what is comfortable for you…

  Costa Rican here: it’s crazy to see the ways foreigners live in our country. As for the woman’s son, we have very strict school mandates, I’m not sure if they apply to foreigners but it’s quite enforced for kids to go to school. Aside from this I both like it and hate the way we are seen as a tropical paradise. It makes us a great world famous tourist destination but also seen as a magical jungle land which we are not

These guys showed up near our place the day or so before and looked us up.
