Everyone always forgets that 12000 years ago during the younger dryas, and the instantaneous melt of the glaciers produced rivers thru all of the USA measured in millions of gallons per minute, flowed. I would bet over 100 ft of the canyon was carved in months. See Randal carlson for the facts.

The graduated cylinder sediment demonstration was somewhat irrelevant to the topic of discussion but became seemingly genius and on point after seeing the fella cut a cake in half to simulate erosion.

I think travertine is formed from groundwater dripping in caves, not from water percolating up. More likely, the limestone formation containing the cave was cut into by the river, exposing the travertine.
