I see that the Axis never understood the power of friendship.

Hitler even sent military aid to Ethiopia during the 1935-6 Italian colonial conquest, that's how mad he was about the Austrian issue

I was a little bit surprised by the appearance of the Taiwanese flag and then I realize that oh...right...1949 hasn't happened yet...

I love how removed from context he easily wrote the Axis as trying to one-up each other in the dumbest moves ever.

I might have missed it, but I think he left out Nanking. What Japan did there was so bad that it made the German representative intervene to save Chinese lives - sort of on theme for the video.

what we've learned class is that evil does not equate intelligent. if anything, the fact the axis was such a clown car of buffonnery means that the Allies actively put their stick in their own spokes by not dealing with this earlier.

Actually many italians weren’t very happy about the alliance with Germany and even less to the idea of fighting alongside. At that time germans were seen as historical enemies to the italian people, because of ww1 and the indipendence wars (yeah, those were mainly austrians but they really couldn’t tell the difference).

What's also surreal alongside Mussolini is that Pol Pot was also the Cambodian equivalent of an elementary school teacher for a number of years.

One moment you're teaching kids math and reading, the next you're leading one of the most brutal and depraved genocides in human history.

It's amazing how much of it boiled down to Hitler saying, "he did WHAT?!" and then doing the thing he shouldn't do in response to that.

I had seen that Jack Rackam video earlier. From what I've seen of that and others, he's factually correct. Despite the video length and jokes, memes... He's been correct. History is really that crazy.

The Axis was a weird mess. Now, any nation has their own interests that may and may not conflict with other nations of an alliance. Even the Allies had their own goals. Britain was trying to preserve or regain its empire and FDR was not keen on that. The US & UK were not ideologically cool with the Soviet Union. They all had their own aims to the point that the Cold War would soon emerge after the end of WWII. But for the sake of the World War II war effort, they set things aside enough to have common goals, they did support each other at a strategic level.

Not only that, the Axis went to war with the world's economic, industrial, population power houses who also happened to sit on most of the resources needed for a modern war. Sane governments would avoid getting their country into such a stupid situation but the Axis did so anyways. Why? Because unlike the Allies, the Axis actually fought based on ideology, namely Germany.

Germany invading Russia was done for ideological reasons. They did so despite not being able to knock the British out of the war or at least come to the negotiation table. Affairs were not settled and suddenly the military had to go invade Russia. There's jokes we've made that the Churchill's idea to keep on fighting and not negotiate after Dunkirk was that all the British needed to do was keep in the fight and wait... Because the Germans would screw up sooner or later.

And screw up the Germans did.
