  I lived in DV at Furnace Ranch for 2 years. and worked for the resort. Free housing, free food, , free healthcare. It was a great place to work and stay. Spent every week end hiking and exploring the area. &nbsp;Summers are hot, but fall and winters are cool. . I been back a few times since then. . I never get tired of DV.

  True &quot;dark sky&quot; locations are magical. I have a general preference for remote islands, but I do love the southwestern US deserts - the dry, stable air - it&apos;s like being in space.

  Here’s a secret that I’ll bury in a YouTube comments section. It’s one of my favorite places bar none because it’s so expansive and beautiful. Beautiful? Yes, yes it is. The sunsets, the stars, the sunrise, warmth of the sun, cleanliness of sand, and NO mosquitoes. The dryness will shrivel any fungal infections one might have. The secret to enjoying this porcupine of a place is to visit between tail end of November and early April. An AWD like a Subaru is highly recommended because many trails are accessible after a medium gravel road on an incline that makes quite a few loaded standard passenger vehicles turn around. Check the moon phase calendar and bring plenty of food and water. If there ever was a place to remove the rainfly off a tent and fall asleep under the stars on a cot, this would be it, minus the coyotes. The drive itself is an experience.

  Some of those roads, especially on the North end &nbsp;have been closed for 3 years so don&apos;t hold your breath.

  I’ve been getting other YT travel folk in my feed, and watching some of them, I appreciate how you don’t go out of your way to make snide remarks and belittle locations you visit. Other YouTubers should take notes on how travel logs should be.
