  Understanding that all cars are different, I have a 2013 audi with 183000 miles that was burning 1 qt every 400 miles. I performed the the Berrymans B12 chemtool piston soak, and now I go 5000 miles with no loss of oil , as well as my Wife&apos;s Kia sportage, &nbsp;with zero oil loss every 5k. It worked for me!!

  i prefer the backyard hacks , im not building a goddamn top fuel racer. those guys in sandals and hand tools that rebuild engines in the dirt overseas are my spirit heroes

  Got to love all the opinions that come out in these comments for an old corolla 😊<br>I recently did the Berryman’s B12 soak that they describe on the berryman website (I was scared of the redlining step) and it’s been a significant improvement. I’m only 500 miles in, and so far it’s burned only a fraction of what it had been going through. I also put some B12 in the tank and my mileage has also improved. <br>Thanks Dave for helping me give some TLC to my 2001 corolla 🤩

  Soooooo many guys are in exactly the spot you describe. Work car has to be fixed over a weekend on the cheap. Thanks for doing the reasonable thing.

  Brother Dave, you’re doing very well! As an engine engineer, I will slightly disagree with Fahim’s buddy on the honing. But you’re making the right call skipping the honing when you have the crank still in.<br><br>If you stick with all OEM spec pistons and rings, you’ll be OK. I’d personally be tempted to upgrade to Total Seal rings or similar because they really do make a difference in compression and oil control. They are expensive though. But I figure if I’m going to mess with taking it all apart, I’ll splurge on a better part if it might make the difference in lasting another 100k.<br><br>You’ll be fine, you’ve made no mistakes for a shoestring budget project and you’ve been very conscientious. &nbsp;Great series, great filming. An inspiration for those of us who aren’t made of money.

  DIY Dave, I am 100 percent impressed by how you keep moving on to the next possible solution. I think this is the final phase of this project. I am looking forward to the next episode.
