I wish there was no need to have Dan's emergency podcasts. But I appreciate being able to learn from them.

This is a very clear and balanced overview.<br>What I appreciate most is how historical layers are connected instead of focusing only on recent events.<br>It really helps to understand why the unrest did not appear overnight.

I just listened to like 2 hours of Iranian history through this and a couple other documentaries and most of my Mideast Studies degree came back to me

Thank you for these broadcasts. The world has become so large that it's difficult to keep sight of all the history that is influencing all of our lives today. I found the closing remarks especially revealing.

In the mid-1970s, there was a feeling that a revolution in Iran was like an earthquake - you know one will come, it's a question of when, not if. To say the Shah didn't want bloodshed is true at one level, but there were strong rumours about what the Shah's secret police were up to. Tehran newspapers would print stories every so often of criminals having shoot-outs with police, but it felt like an echo of Russian/Soviet regimes reporting that people would fall out of windows during questioning.
