  As someone who was lucky enough to watch us terrorize the league in the late 90s/2000s, as well as  Pavel dangle, I never thought id see this team in this state.  I try to give the benefit of the doubt but it's hard not to feel like illitch is relieving himself on our faces and telling us it's raining.  The latest presser and the larkin injury is him doing the helicopter. My gut feeling is that it won't ever get better or past a fringe team with illich.  Unless somehow we get lucky and draft a few stars. Even then though,  with the cap going up and the contracts given out we would likely make some excuse to trade anyone that would want to be paid like a star... just look at the tigers and it all makes more sense.   I&apos;m with Evan. Who actually benefitted that presser? It made Larkin look like an absolute whuss. Which GM watched this and is of the mindset: hell yeah I want that guy on my team?<br>Also it made Wings look like a total dumpster fire. Which player is gonna say yeah sure I wanna be there?

  Ryan has been repeating the same tired line for 4 straight years now. &quot;This team is too good to tank into top pick contention&quot;. Like we all didn&apos;t just watch Toronto select 1st overall while having mathews nylander &nbsp;Tavares. If this team gets off to the slow start we&apos;re all predicting, Horcoff has to pull the plug. Copp, Faulk, Gibson, Appleton all on expiring deals, gone. Compher, Rasmussen gone for whatever peanuts they might fetch. Make the Larkin deal when the right package of futures develops. But playing for the 10th-12th overall pick has got to stop. Just kicking the can down the road year after year

  It is insane to me that ownership thinks this team is close and needs a &quot;win now&quot; trade for Larkin. Everyone in the Atlantic got better except the Wings. Use that to your advantage. Be bad for 1-3 seasons, and when Florida, Boston, Tampa, and Toronto are all getting older and past their primes, we pounce. It sucks the Yzerplan failed and we&apos;ve been out of the playoffs for 10 years, but I&apos;d be much more accepting of missing them a couple more seasons if we had a plan other that throwing Copp, Compher, Rasmussen, and Chiarot out on the ice to try and make the playoffs. Horcoff and Illitch saying &quot;we&apos;re close&quot; is just infuriating to me because no we&apos;re f&apos;n not. We got Andrew Copp as a 1C. It&apos;s maddening how delusional that is.
