There’s a documentary of the making of this movie called “best worst movie” it’s made 20 years later by the kid. It explains a lot and is fantastic

The way the mom delivers the line "Don't hit him, Michael, PLEASE don't hit him" makes it seem like the dad is a violent monster.

Fun fact: most of this film's awfulness stems from the fact that the Italian crew couldn't communicate properly with the American actors

I’m convinced Deborah Reed is the only person who knew exactly the type of movie she was acting in. She nailed it with her over-the-top performance. <br><br>R.I.P. our Goblin Queen

The reason this works as a best worst movie is because the director was 110% sincere. It doesn't work if the director is tongue-in-cheek or knows it crap. This director, as was seen in the finale of the Best Worst Movie doco, thought he was an artist and the movie was high art. He didn't realize until he showed up at a revival screening to an adoring audience that the audience only loved it IRONICALLY, to laugh at it, and he was completely offended.
