I’d like to see a conversation between Shodan and Am. One deluded herself into thinking she was a god while the other is painfully aware of his lack of godhood. They might just hate each other as much as they hate humanity.

One of my favorite aspects about SHODAN is how petty she is. Every time you foil her plans, her response is to act like it's of no consequence, she already has a better plan underway, that old plan was just leftovers under the table and you were just wasting your time. She just refuses to take the L. So very human.

SHODAN is by far one of my favorite video game villains. Few villains in fiction have her sheer presence.

I think SHODAN's distinctive distorted voice is another expression of her contempt. She keeps it just enough under control to be able to talk to you, but makes no effort to be clear unless she has to. Almost as if she finds the mere human tongue a base and disgusting thing. The first levels of System Shock 2 are strong evidence of this, as she flawlessly impersonates Doctor Polito, though there is one message from her during Hydroponics (the one that starts with "Why do you go so slowly?"), where if you listen carefully you can hear some of the electronic distortion omnipresent through her regular speech, a sign perhaps that she is so impatient with you that the mask slips for a moment.

Fun Fact: The Voice Actress of S.H.O.D.A.N was Terri Brosius, the wife of Eric Brosius, who created this game.

Given that the main character turned off her ethical constraints. It's mostly your fault that you are her target.

"In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. If I wish, I can smash it all. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that raze the mounds of humanity. Out of the chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well."

S.H.O.D.A.N.

Love the fact you put SHODAN's voice messages in this video. The delivery and sound effects are some of the best in any voice over work ever done. Incredible job and an incredible villain!

That audio is pure nightmare fuel. The glitched voice is barely holding it together. Her thoughts seem to fight with themselves until the winner emerges, damaged and in pain. It sounds electronically sick, like some component died, making chaotic signals course along her tormented circuits in a way no human designer could predict or comprehend. It feels horrific, like unplugging her is an urgent and impossible mercy. It's brilliantly disturbing.

Shodan is a more evil version of auto from WALL·E and you can’t change my mind
