My daughter is on the autism spectrum and has a tendency to overthink things. She also was starting to feel that the rumblings in China about COVID were going to be worse than people thought. I wasn't paying attention to it because my husband was dying at the time because of a long term illness. He died early Jan. 2020 just before COVID took foothold in the USA. We are usually well stocked with food (2-3 months worth of self-stable food), but had run thru all our supplies because I hadn't had time to shop between working and spending time at the hospital. My daughter told me she had a bad feeling about what was going on with COVID jumping from country to country and convinced me to go food shopping. We stocked up on food - buying things that everyone else was NOT buying. We already had toilet paper, paper towels, sanitizing wipes, alcohol, gloves and masks because they were items needed for caring for my sick husband, but not food. The only thing we didn't get was hand sanitizer. So we just washed our hands a lot. So glad she was an overthinker way before most people around us.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean you aren't right.

The fine art restorer who thought the covid19 pandemic would last for a while, cause job loss & signed up to re-train for an outdoor job. That's not over-thinking, that's just plain brains.

I'm not a smoker, never was, but I often attended rock concerts and I often went out with friends for a smoke, just didn't smoke myself. They always lost their lighters so I had multiple lighters in every purse I own. I still have this habit and one winter morning, when I was supposed to drive to work the padlock on my garage door froze during the night and I couldn't get into the garage. I struggled with it for a minute or two and then I remembered the lighters I always carry. Used the flame to heat up the metal inside the padlock, itopened without a hitch and I wasn't late for work

Wake of the fall of the twin towers suddenly there are ad for First time home buyer loans with no payments for 5 years. I thought it was scummy to prey on the people's need for security after the attack.<br> Within a couple weeks I'm a senior in a gimme class "home economics" or something. We were going through newspapers, magazines, periodicals as part of the class and I was horrified. It sounds dramatic but it felt like ice dropping from my eyes to my feet, the scummy loan had evolved WAY beyond "first time buyers". It became loans for any one "No credit, Bad credit, no co signer, no job, no down payment" for any 18 and over. <br>No payments at all for 5 years and zero interest for the first year (or first few months depending) compounding interest afterwards penalties for paying early. <br><br>(So if your loan is 100k and 10% interest starting with year 2 the principal is 110k, 121k year 3, 133.1k year 4, 146.4k when you're allowed to make payments. I saw fine print interest rates as high as 21%> same example 100k becomes 214,358.88 before you're allowed to make a payment without a $360.00 x% penalty per early payment.)<br><br> I jumped from one periodical to the other, every newspaper, magazine and flyer in the class had advertisements for these loans. It was the first time I felt actual panic and I went to the teacher with my concern.<br>I listed the above and she commented that it was a good idea, people would feel very safe in a new home. Why didn't I want them to feel safem<br>I spluttered "interest will build. There will be penalties if they try to catch up with the interest, the people they're targeting won't know how to catch up with the payments"<br>She shrugged and said if they're good at math they'd learn, they have 5 years to save.<br>I pointed out the interest rates and almost felt like I couldn't breathe. I finally said "by 2007 the US will go through a recession. The banks are going to plan their debts for when the payments are supposed to start in 2006. The people will try but most will default. The banks will be taking the homes by 2007 and there will be so many dis-occupied buildings the housing market will crash. The banks will default on their debts and cash out their assets. Dropping values across the board there will be a stock market crash. Every country that counts on the us will follow into that recession. It'll last years and drive a wedge between actual cash millionaires and everyone else. By 2008 at the latest we will be in a full blown depression." <br>She said the banks wouldn't do that. They'd predict something like that if it were so obvious. Why would they hurt themselves?<br>I responded "They did. They know. They are Targeting people who <b>Can Not</b> pay. When this all settles millionaires and companies will own most of the houses, bought at a steal from the banks who got them for free. The banks will write off their on-paper-losses to lower their tax burden on the sales. This is going to hurt a LOT of people who won't be able to bounce back. This is malicious. They are preying on the weak. They will make a fortune and people will die.<br>She suggested I write to the newspapers about my concern if I really believed that.<br><br>I don't know what I was expecting. But not that.<br><br>I was stunned. Sat down, opened a note book and wrote out my prediction.<br>Years down the road while browsing old note books I came across it and remembered my campaign to tell everyone not to get a loan that punishes you for paying. the families of two friends listened, my parents decided not to upgrade.<br>Came home in 2017 every friend or friend's family that bought under those loans lost their homes.<br>My family and those two friends' families still have their homes. I scooped up some under valued investments that let me stay home for two years to mourn 17 dead among family and friends.<br>Some times I wonder if I should have written to the newspaper, if it would have done anything.<br>I did learn to never rely on a "They wouldn't do that!" And infact hold that sentence with alarm and suspicion. If that's the only defence to an accusation I assume it's said with malice. That's saved me more times than I can count.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmleSXE6TsQ&t=10725">2:58:45</a>. My grandson, who prepares constantly was in the USAF, in Hawaii, where part of his job was watching a large Asian country. He was about to go on a two week leave but decided to change it to three weeks after watching a possible epidemic occurring in said Asian country. Rather than add the time on to the back end of his leave he requested it to be added to the front end. On his way to the airport, a couple of hours before his flight, he received notice all personnel not in transit while under orders were to report to the base all others were to report to the base. He made it to the mainland that morning and stayed for the next several months under orders not to travel back to base. He was unable to do his job during that time. Basically he had a four or five month vacation, only having to report in once daily.

I remembered thinking back to my history classes in college, and decided that when COVID started to rise to stuck up. Ended up saving my wife and I a lot of trouble for most of the lockdown.

I kept telling my wife to keep my spare apartment key in her daily bag. She would ask me why and I'd say "even though you have a key on hand, if there's an emergency and you accidentally lose your key, I'll most likely be at work and won't be able to help for an hour." She once said I'm overthinking it but one day I come home from work and my wife, with a big smile, says, "You were right. Today I locked my key in the apartment and remembered that I had your spare in my bag." 😎

The brain is extremely powerful, the placebo effect for example. Self-fulfilled prophecy is extremely real and important. I hate toxic positivity but if you tell yourself this is probably going to happen, it will happen. Your subconscious will likely make it happen

My only overthinking isn't really overthinking cause I live in california where fires happen but I think about my plan a lot and what I would do in the situation that a fire happens near me. My first thing is get all three of my cats in cat bags, grab my phone, cats medicine to prevent stuff, security box (which has every important doc, money etc), and run out and grab as many cats in the neighborhood too if I can cause I don't want them to die either.
