A gallon of milk will last zero typical American families a month. When my kids were all home and small we went through a gallon a day for five. Americans with kids drink milk like Brit’s and the Irish drink beer. I actually had to put a mater line at the bottom of each gallon container so the kids had a reminder where to stop so I had milk for my morning coffee. My brother, who had 9 kids went through 3 gallons a day. When things are right it’s a cheap source of protein. The reasons milk is sold in gallons at gas stations is because stopping on the way home from work to pick up milk is more common than gassing up your car.

No, we don't really have an issue with pickpockets in the USA. Mostly because people here will beat you within an inch of death if they caught you. ("Muggings" are a different ballgame and usually involve very young or old victims and a group of perpetrators, or an armed assailant(s).)
