This came out at the perfect time! I just found out my ex has BPD. They are currently in rehab to treat alcoholism. The idealization, love bombing, projection, splitting, push-pull, blame-shift, gaslighting, manipulation, devaluation phase is crazy! One moment, you feel on top of the world like you're a God or King. Then next day, you're a cheater, liar, & abusive. When They were the ones that was abusive, causing drama, & starting sh*t.

it becomes an addiction. Break the cycle focus inward.

It's a nightmare just walking on eggshells. You cant maintain either a relationship or a friendship under these circumstances. The least minor thing triggers them off into rage.

BPD a lot of the time is created by a narcissistic abusive unstable mother and weak passive father. 100% correct!

Mine impulsively broke up with me a year ago.. 10 months later she hit me up after I went no contact and I got to tell her off. Felt great. I’ve moved on with someone 10x better. Don’t waste your time on BPD people

It’s so crazy how accurate and similar everyone’s experiences with a BPD relationship are. It boggles my mind and has really made me lose myself for a bit. I finally chose me and I’m getting over the guilt of having to do the breaking up and being firm. This has been an absolute hell for me but coming out the other side im realizing how strong ive become mentally and have a new focus on my own self care.

Yes, the double standards were hard to take and very telling. Black and white thinking, impulsivity, trying to always get what they want. Selfish. Totally inconsistent parenting with their own children. Moody and so angry. They despised boundaries and anything else that didn’t serve their interests.

Interesting you say that there are some parallels with narcissistic personality disorder. So my advice is to run and don’t look back! We are so lucky in 2026 to know so much more about these personality disorders because so many people in the past had to endure this stuff and never knew what was going on. I was involved with one 20 to 30 years ago and none of the half a dozen counsellors we had ever mentioned the word. BPD. They didn’t have a clue. It took me years to figure it out myself.

I've heard many therapists and psychologists explain that BPD and NPD are vastly different diagnosis. In my experience dating someone who absolutely ticked all the BDP boxes, the way they treat their partners is virtually the same as all of the NPD podcasts and videos I have watched and listened to. Thank you for cutting through those clinical differences and getting to the heart of what it is like to be with either of these diagnosis. Like you said, they way treat you is abusive, it doesn't matter what they have, or what they don't have, they need to be held accountable for their behaviour.

Just got dumped from someone with bpd. After 3 years, i m at this point 100% sure she has bpd eventhough she hasnt been diognosed or hasnt admitted to me yet. Despite the push/pull cycle, numerous breakups, me trying to soothe her fear of abondonment, playing along with her abusive paranoid jelaousy, tolerating her cheating accusations every two days, tolerating her rage and impulsive behaviours, all i can say is and i m saying this as someone who has a great career and finances; borderline people are addictive. As someone who had walked out of every relationship he had, who is perceived as a very strong character, she broke me down so bad, even i cant recognize myself on the mirror and still to this day cant say how on earth i will be able to move on and recover.
All i wish is good luck for everyone here

I will never EVER break no contact with my ex wife. Worst relationship/marriage I’ve ever experienced. So much damage, gaslighting, blame shifting, verbal abuse and on and on. They will never change, never accept responsibility for anything they put you through, they will jump into another bed without a second thought and they suck the soul out of you. Fu&@in run. Doesn’t matter the diagnosis..the relationship will surely die.

In a relationship with a person with borderline personality disorder. When you become their favorite person, you become punching bag. They will use other men to make you jealous. They won’t see any problems with flirting with other men, so long as they don’t sleep with them. Some of them actually do sleep with other men. they will call you the worst names on an hourly basis, and if you so much sneeze out a curse word, you are the devil. They will insult your family members. It doesn’t matter if they’re dead or alive. They will insult your children, you will make videos of them, insulting your children, but you won’t have the heart to make it public because that would destroy them. but you can’t count on them to ever protect you. Once you get hooked, it is very hard to let go. So before you get hooked, let go.
