Can I please back up your encouragement to Do the Research with a long-held 'Three pieces of documentation for every added name to your family tree'. This is from family history training that I took in the 1980's in Salt Lake City - before computer software help began - and the three sources better ensures a correct family tree chart. Happy Hunting, All! Thank you.

Four children in my family. All of us named for a grandparent. Me older daughter named for mom's mom. Younger sister named for dad's mother. I was christened a Presbyterian. Many Presbyterians in both mom and dad's family. English, Scotts and German ancestors.

Outstanding content! And your e-book plus the pattern of passing down names is vital and a BIG HELP to those of us doing Genealogy. And then there are the nicknames that really added to 'slippery'. 😊 Thank you.

Was waiting for this video and am so thankful it has come when it has. I have been searching for my Ulster Scot fifth great grandfather's parents and have never been able to find them. The pattern holds: his son and his son's wife named their children for him (John), for the wife's father (Jacob), and for his wife (Susannah). If his own four children were named by the same pattern, then his father was an Archibald I have yet to find and his mother was a Martha.

I come from Scots Irish people among others. I am the first and only son. Mothers fathers was given to me as my middle name. My only child, a daughter, has his surname as her middle name. He had only girls so his surname will live on.

According to 23 and me I have genetics from County Donnegal. And my great grandmother‘s family name was McWorter, family legend says Scott Irish. They lived in Georgia through the Civil War. I’d love to know when they left Scotland for Ulster and when they left Ulster for America.

I’ve used the naming pattern to figure that there is an older son or daughter missing from the census record, too, especially if there is a gap between marriage date and “oldest” living child.
