I know of no other film, whereby so many people claim it to be -"my favourite film of all time". Every scene from Local Hero is smart, funny, unpredictable, fresh, enlightening, and it never, ever ages. I have seen it well over 50 times, and when the phone rings on that red booth at the very end, it brings tears to my eyes, not because I am sentimental, but because it is cinamatography brilliance. And then there is Knopfler's score...

I used to have a job where I travelled the world, working mostly in small coastal towns and villages. People touch your life, they share themselves and their families with you, and then you find yourself back home, looking at a shell from your pocket, wondering if it all actually happened. Local Hero's ending captures this so well.

Even a short montage like this brings a smile to one's face.

If you love it, respect it, honor it, cherrish it, embrace it, hold it, fight for it, live by it. Never give up, ever.

The beauty of this movie is finding a place you have never been to and it becomes home.

Saw this movie many years ago and had forgotten how good the music was. Brings back great memories. Thank you.

A great film from a different era where the most violent scene is a rabbit being injured by a car and the strongest language is the question "are there two 'G's' in bugger off?" Then there is our wonderful Scottish scenery, some great acting and the magnificent Glasgow-born Mr Knopfler.
