  In regards to why the Reverend Wilbert Awdry came up with talking trains, he said in interviews that whenever he heard trains go by his home, to him the various sounds of a steam engine sort of sounded like they were talking. Like if you ever wonder why the characters often speak in repetitive remarks, its cuz they match the rythmic chugging of the engine.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEngU_80GFg&amp;t=968">16:08</a> the reason why locomotive air-horns were made to sound more musical was because back then, single note air-horns sounded Identical to truck horns, which would often confuse other motorists and cause confusion at railroad crossings, resulting in a higher risk of accidents at crossings.

  The PRR-NYC merger to create Penn Central never should have happened. &nbsp;The two railroads operated on completely different systems that didn&apos;t mesh together at all... and within a mere <b>871 days,</b> the PC had become the largest bankruptcy in American history, a rather unfortunate distinction it would hold for 31 years until a little company called Enron came along and took that title in 2001. &nbsp;(It didn&apos;t help that the PC was forced to take on the bankrupt New Haven on New Year&apos;s Day 1969, which only made the financial issues that much worse.) &nbsp;By June of 1970, they were losing over <b>$500,000 A DAY!</b>
