Moral of the story -change oil frequently

Magic in a bottle. There is no substitute for taking the engine apart, clean all the parts and put it back together. If I had a car I really cared about, I think I would change the oil and filter every 3000 to 4000 miles with Mobil1 5W30. I also realize not many are willing to do that.

Ive used 1 qt of Marvel Mystery oil mixed with 5 it's of engine oil. Had to drive and heat soak multiple times. Change the oil marvel mix, and do it 2 times more, about 50 miles per oil change and 15 heat soaks. Then did proper oil change, and it was amazing. Worked well.

The amount of sludge in the engine shown, is honestly incredible. The amount of sludge reminds me of the cars I worked on in the 1980s. Often (back then) it was Penzoil devotes. Because engine flushes (in the quart cans) only marginally helped, our shop used diesel. We'd add a quart to the engine, right before the oil change, and run the car on the lift for 30-40 minutes, while monitoring the oil pressure.
As you stated, this method worked best one engines with that had stuck piston rings the best. It generally did not remove any built up sludge on components. Honestly, to get the crud off of the cam, crank or rods the chemicals would need to be very harsh, and I'd suspect that would cause bearing damage.
So many car since the early 2000s have incredible oil service intervals. My wife's BMW is 12,500 miles. She did so when the car was new, but we've decreased that to no more than 5K miles now that the engine has 181K on it. Luckily she has no sludge in her engine, which I attribute to her long commute. She drives 45 miles to and from work, on a fast moving interstate. Virtually no stop and go.
If the engine was a stop-n-go commuter, I'd expect the engine to be trash by now.

I love the top engine clean systems, where it plugs into the throttle body and sprays that foam shit into the engine while it's running for an hour. That stuff works amazing, obviously not going to clean a sludged engine, but if you need the ports and carbon deposits on your valves cleaned, it will really make them look like new

This is the best video I've seen. It has to be the best reaction video to an incoming hurricane warning phone alert you could ever see.
1. Phone alert sounds
2. Everyone stops for a moment, checks phone to confirm their suspicions
3. Returns phone to the pocket and carry on working
Absolutely brilliant 😂
I've learnt a couple of things from the video, thanks guys.

Had success with BG products on son's '09 accord. Car was fouling out spark plugs in cylinder 3 in about a week's time and burning significant oil, Honda tech told us the only real fix was to re-ring the rear bank as it was a known issue with these engines due to the VCM... at about a $4k cost... too much for a college kid to afford. Told us we could try to use BG products to delay the repair awhile. Used BG EPR on two oil changes about a month apart. Oil burning almost completely went away, no more fouling spark plugs, and that was 3 years ago... he's still driving the car.
