How I have built my new bird photography hide

Hi. You have done a nice job. And you are in great shape for almost 90. With regards to a canvas hide which I have just purchased, you have the advantage above a static hide of  movability. Your not stuck in the 1 location. Ok, you can move the feeders and perches about but you cannot move the hide about. And as long as you buy yourself a really good quality water repellant spray and absolutely cake it all over the hide material and let it soak in and dry,  once your in it and it hammers it down with rain, the rain will run right off it. Leaving the material bone dry. That is the sole purpose of a water repellant spray. As for being cold, for 1 , you know how cold it is outside before you leave the house, you know roughly how long your going to be in the hide, so you plan ahead and just wear loads of layers and a hat.  I am pretty sure when you are in that hide and you have the fronts off it and its cold, you will also be just as cold in there as anybody would be in a tent hide. You have no way of stopping the cold coming in wile you have them big covers off the front of your hide. So to be fair, I don't think you have any advantage over someone having a tent hide having your hide. Plus you are stuck in 1 spot. Still ok though. But I think I'd rather have the tent hide for the portability.

I wish I had your skills both in carpentry and photography, what you do is really impressive. As for getting up and down I truly sympathise as I find being older than you that descent can be at best uncontrolled and getting up a truly ungracious spectacle. Best wishes to you and your family for Christmas and the upcoming new year.

Another excellent video Roger and great photos. Obviously a lot of thought has gone into the hide. It crossed my mind that a monitor on the low level setup might be worth looking at. All the best for Christmas and New Year

Sir, I believe that those lens decoys (it might not be a proper term) is an extremely brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing!

Buy yourself a couple heavy duty handles that you can mount to the inside to help lift yourself up. Maybe one on either side of the door. I’m impressed with your hide build. I immediately started thinking up some ideas.
