  A friend gave me Eat, Pray, Love after my boyfriend committed suicide. I did not find it inspiring. I found it pretentious and fake. It’s about a woman with money who can drop everything to travel the world. Not very realistic. I didn’t bother to watch the movie.

  &quot;If the real Raya were here&quot; is a truly awful thing to say to someone who is real and in front of you and dying, and she&apos;s only where she is because of you - you gave her the house and bought her drugs and let her believe you are her whole world, promoted it in fact, and now she&apos;s a junkie whose dying and your plan is to leave and write a book about how hard it was for you. &nbsp;It sounds like it was always the plan.

  as a sober addict myself, Gilbert is 100% at fault for Raya relapsing. she paid her and bought her drugs for her and used with her, and when things got “too heavy” for her, she left. wtf

  So let me get this straight... so she meets a sober girl and falls in love, finds out she has cancer, so then ENCOURAGES a drug relapse, and then when her gf is now fully in relapse and struggling with addiction again due to the cancer dx, she decides she can&apos;t handle being with her gf anymore.

  I fell for this book, too, and I felt frustrated that I couldn’t run away to Italy, buy a broken down villa, and fall in love with a gorgeous, younger man. And look beautiful doing it all. But then I got older and now I realize that she did it with an advance payout from her publisher and had a very obvious motive to create that happy ending. Reality: she wrote a modern fairy tale, and we all bought it, lock, stock, and barrel. And none of us moved to Italy for a life renewal.

  I lost my wife to cancer 5 years ago and I could never imagine leaving someone I loved and adored so much to die alone. I was with her until her last breathe.

  Don’t forget Elizabeth Gilbert was paid before writing Eat Pray Love. She pitched the book as a concept and they paid for her year-long trip. I need to work on my pitching skills. 😂

  She’s a collector. She travels into people’s lives, worlds, for the stories, emotions, experiences, material, takes what she needs, then moves on to the next. Life and people aren’t for genuine connection, they’re opportunity to be utilised.
