ngl i think a major reasons a lot of girls have that experience where a guy they see as a good friend ends up developing feelings for them is because of how they translate being listened to, seen or understood or even being given the opportunity to be vulnerable without stigma as girls being interested in them. like the lack of emotional depth in male friendships directly contributes to this by virtue of that being what they define and understand as the extent of friendship, if that makes sense

Genuinely my favourite comparison is “my first girlfriend turned into the moon” “that’s rough buddy”

As a male who has multiple male and female friends, it's so exhausting to always get the dating rumors. It's irritating, too.

Platonic friendships are really important tbh

If I had a nickel for the number of platonic relationships ruined by gendered expectations of existence and coexistence, I’d be richer than the billionaires contributing to the ruination of humanity.

I mean the one time I opened up to my guy friends abt Issues, they didn't rlly say anything. And then later they would continue to make domestic violence jokes. I don't hang out w/ them anymore

I was like 20 or 21 and put my arm around a bro and he straight up said "I'm homophobic." I mean it's good that he recognized this but not good that this was a thing

As a girl, I have no friends, all my "friendships" are shallow and idk how to really feel like a person cares about me and to really care about another person to the extent that I've seen female friendships portrayed on tv
On the other side, my dad and his best friend call each other at least once a week, they talk about life, their other friends, movies and discuss film theories, their calls last for at least two hours and they're so close that my younger sister thought he was our uncle at some point
Male loneliness might be real but this... thing probably isn't affecting just men and whatever it is likely a deeper issue than just men being bad at conveying feelings and caring even if thats part of the issue
I just feel like lonely women like me are often left out of the conversation and I don't even know why this happens if women are so caring and so good at making friends then wtf is wrong with me

Edit; I had no idea this would resonate with so many people, I admit, I wrote this comment while in a particularly terrible mood, so bad that I couldn't even watch the video lol and even now I still haven't, so this has nothing to do with whatever Emily had to say on this topic, more so the general conversation around the topic at hand
Cheers!

ngl as a man (queer man) i acc met up with a male friend of mines a few weeks ago and honestly it was rlly nice. we had a great time conversing about deeper things and our emotions and opening up and i rlly did value the time we had discussing our inner deeper feelings among each other. men if you’re reading this dont let the straight toxic male patriarchy gaslight you, be honest to your other guy friends and have deeper conversations about feelings and emotion rather than surface level stuff. i do trust that you’ll end up feeling better for it in the long run! 💗💗💗💗💗

As a straight male, I've had quite a few negative experiences with friendship especially with woman. I've gotten ghosted by 3 of my female friends and once by my male friend. These friendships were all very one sided as i was the one who was reaching out first, asking interesting questions and trying to make plans to hang out.

Last year i met this girl at my job who i quickly became friends with and i never realized just how interesting i was until I met her. She's helped me realize how bad my past friendships have been. She cares about my feelings, she asks about my hobbies, she invites me to hang out with her, and she actually texts first. She's the first person that has read my novel's manuscript. I sometimes get sad thinking about how back in high school i wished that i had a friend like her. I've thought about giving her a gift because she's been such a wonderful friend to me.

Finally this is talked about! I feel like the reason so many men feel lonely is because they aren't having fulfilling friendships and would rather blame that issue on women.
