Thank Lylat this game isn’t canon because they did Krystal so dirty it felt illegal.

I actually think the branching story is a neat idea. It, in theory, should add a bit of narrative weight to the traditional Star Fox route split. Unfortunately for it to work, the writing actually needs to be good.

That game's writing genuinely baffled me. Like it just seems to fly right in the face of what came directly before. Also "Kursed" is just... What? Lmao

The default ending reminds me of how everyone gets the bad ending in Silent Hill 1, by just playing the game until you learn the steps to get the good ending

I think the rumored Star Fox game will probably have much better writing than whatever this was.

in the Mario Galaxy Movie Fox was not just a side character, he somehow had more screen time that Luigi had in the first movie, the people working at Nintendo clearly still love the franchise.

and with the franchise having been pretty much dead for many years they probably want this game to stick

I will never understand writers obsessions with keeping main protagonists single, only giving them brief moments of love. God forbid any of them become a combat couple that fights evil together, noooo cuz that would he boring...

I suppose there are ways you could take this and twist it into something positive:
•. Fox is suffering PTSD post Aparoids after nearly losing everyone he cared about and suffers nightmares involving a war where his fears make him make bad choices; Krystal attempts to use her telepathic/empathic skills to lead Fox into a happier ending that reveals his true desire to leave the merc life and escape his Father's Ghost.
• The Anglars have somehow struck in ways that speculate they are receiving insider help; believing a fractured StarFox will lower the traitors' guards and reveal themselves Fox and Krystal stage a breakup so Krystal can infiltrate the CDF and StarWolf (ex: military officials, politicians, criminal informants, etc). Publicly she plays a role but telepathically she's relaying info. Katt is let in on the rise and decides to go undercover by dying her fur black. Peppy has all the proof revealing Krystal's loyalty.
• Someone is trying to gain access to Krystal's DNA (kept confidential and secretive due to her rare genetic gifts) in order to replicate her telepathic/empathic powers via a drug that allows others to temporarily gain her powers (politicians, gamblers, military officials, criminals). Originally known as 'Blessed' an overuse of the drug has dire consequences (braindead comatose) thus making it 'Kursed'.
• Some is attempting to clone Krystal for their own desire for a telepathic soldier (if successful more to come). Something goes wrong and the Krystal Clone is born powerful but more aggressive, prone to negative thoughts and blurred distorted memories of Krystal - add a shortened lifespan and you know have a 'Kursed' Abomination wanting to make the Lylat System, and StarFox, suffer. Fox and Krystal not only must stop Kursed but bring her peace (ex: Batman and Ace in the Justice League Animated Series).
•. StarFox find survivors stranded in space; two of them attempt to kill Krystal but the a third saves her. The two attackers claim to come from the future and travel to the past to kill Krystal before she becomes the Evil Kursed after the Anglar Blitz (Self Proclaimed Empress of Lylat similar to Self) after her Fox dies (either she killed him out of anger or he killed himself out of guilt; either way Kursed snapped believing Lylat cursed both her and Fox now she will kurse them back). They don't believe them at first but when she reads their minds it's seemingly true. Afraid and ashamed she begs Fox to kill her before she does anything to bring them harm but they refuse. The third stranger unmasks to reveal himself to be Marcus McCloud, their future son from at time when Fox and Krystal did temporarily break up but got back together and retired, having him (he was with his new StarFox when he got lost in a supposed Time Warp and landed here. Krystal checks his mind and confirms the truth. With two different but real futures Beltino does some tests and discovers the three didn't travel through time but they traveled through a universal dimension (multiverse) where supposedly the Anglar Blitz led to a creation of multiple galaxies. Realizing their plan to kill Krystal in the Past won't change a thing in their world they apologize and head home when Krystal and the rest of StarFox offer to travel with them to stop the evil Krystal and find out what happened (Marcus helps out too before finding a way back to his own world)
* Still, it'd be better to just pretend this never happened ... Or just watch/play StarFox Event Horizon.

This game made me feel like Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica because Homura keeps going back in time, looping again and again, trying to save Madoka from a tragic fate no matter how many times she has to watch everything go wrong. Star Fox Command gave me the exact same feeling. You’re forced to play through the default path first, then you unlock the Key of Destiny that lets you go back, choose different routes, and desperately try to change the outcome, keeping the team together, preventing breakups, and chasing a better ending.

Ah yes. I remember this game when I was a kid. And how I was kind of having an "existential crisis."

"Command is not canon." – Estelle Ellis

Command is such a sting because the concepts of rts gameplay and a branching story are so cool and would help a ton with replayability but it's all built off a foundation of sand
