the amount of societal damage done by the phrase "when a boy's mean to you, he likes you!"... I'm so glad I rarely hear this anymore, but I'm sure a lot of people still do

The TV show called Kevin Can F*** Himself is great. It looks like a classic sitcom of a doofy husband and naggy wife, but then it cuts to her perspective of her incompetent, abusive husband and how she's escaping. Each episode mirrors the same story in two perspectives and it's SO GOOD.

the absence of love isn't hate, it's apathy and thats what i think when i see Dax and Kristen. there is 0 love from his end, he only tolerates her. It's something much colder than hate.

Believe a man when his behavior says "I am not as dedicated to your happiness as you are to mine."

There will be signs. Heed them.

i think men should never weigh in on why its actually a random woman's fault her friend is being abused, thanks.

I feel like we all say "yeah, I know how abuse works, but if it happens to me I'm going to be different." I've dealt with it in my family and with a romantic partner and both times I was convinced that it wasn't happening or it wasn't as bad as it seemed.

A lot of women don’t want to be in close proximity to their friend’s abusive relationships because they end up victimized themselves. One of my acquaintances’ exes SA’d one of her friends at a get together and the woman partnered with this guy said / did nothing because the alternative was getting hit + screamed at. She could not be an ally to her friends while she was in that relationship, so it was safer for her friends to take space and only come back into her life when she was ready to escape.

Forever grateful to my mother for telling preschool me to punch the little boy bothering me rather than saying he "likes" me.

My ex got drunk and started berating me in front of our friends. Nobody stepped in. His friend pulled me aside and told me he didn’t know why he was being like this but “all I know is he really loves you”. I got up and left the to the parking lot. My ex then followed me outside and starting screaming at me, getting in my face, and telling me it was the last time I would disrespect him. Everyone was shocked when I ended it.

It just occurred to me that while men compare themselves to the worst men, women compare themselves to the best women. Because of male entitlement, women give themselves impossible standards.

Being friends with someone in an abusive relationship is endangering your own life in it's own way, also you often cannot vocally oppose it. If it is safe you can just be there for them and draw the boundary at getting caught up in their cycle. I have said before "you know I'm here if you're ready to leave, but otherwise you know I have nothing say and I cannot listen for my own safety."
