  July 8, 1987, I was a rookie cop walking a foot post outside Madison Square Garden for a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert.  I remember being nervous and bored at the same time. I walked for miles, trying to talk to people to pass time.  It was some time after the show, I was walking past a huge bus.  Door was open as I was walking past. In the doorway was Tom. Made eye contact, but didn’t want to bother him, I kept walking.  He stopped me and waved for me to come back and greeted me. Asked if I wanted to “take a load off”. Being a rookie, I didn’t want to get into trouble, but went in anyway😂.  And no, the bus did not smell of pot😂.  No other band members were on the bus. Three others were, I think the driver and maybe a couple of technicians. Sat down for a while and talked about lots of things, including his music. Absolutely a down to earth guy.  He asked if I wanted to go inside MSG and have a look backstage, but I said I was appreciative but I needed to go back outside.  He left me with two CD’s and one cassette tape😎. He signed them all for me. I still have them.

  Here it is May 2021, it still hurts to know he is gone.  He made music for all of us and was happiest playing for us.  Thank you kind, gentle, soul and spirit

  I saw him a couple months before his passing. &nbsp;It was my first and only Tom Petty show. &nbsp;There was nothing fancy. &nbsp;They came on stage, crowd went nuts at the mere sight of him. &nbsp;Then they played two and a half hours of straight up rock n roll. &nbsp;It was beyond perfect. &nbsp;RIP Tom Petty!!!

  This song always gets me 😍 because I&apos;m from Indiana I&apos;m a Indiana girl and I love blaring this song in my car while driving in the country with the cornfields 🥰 Love Tom Petty ❤️🥰

  There could be 20,000 people at a Heartbreakers show, but Tom and the guys made you feel like family. I will always, always miss him.

  It&apos;s like you have a total mess that you&apos;re juggling and tom hears it all and puts it all to words and music...&quot;buy me a drink, sing me a song, take me as I come...&quot; and he&apos;s gone. BUT he has the song she sang him to remember who she really is. Yeah...
