So everyone is aware, I am cutting this up in to smaller clips, they will show up as new videos on the channel so if you see them they are just being "pulled" from this longer video. Many people can't sit through over 1 hour, but the bite sized chunks are nice :).

I'm still convinced that cash for clunkers was a ploy to scrap reliable vehicles so people would be forced to buy the new garbage.

Let me tell you a little story about the GM 4L80E.

I worked as the transmission tech for GM dealerships for about 25 years. I currently work for independent transmission shop.

While at GM I discovered that GM, really wanted to sell you a remanufactured transmission.

This is how I figured this out. I had a 4L80E that flared into 2nd gear. Pretty simple fix actually. However as I always did. I inspected the entire transmission. I found the rear case bushing had started to walk up out of the case bore. I went to parts to see about a rear case bushing. This is what I found out.

Case bushing, not serviced individually. You had to buy the whole transmission case. So, it was warranty. Ok fine, can I get a case. Guess what, case assembly only available as a complete transmission assembly.

So to get a 6 dollar case bushing. You had to buy a $2,800 (I don’t remember the exact price. at the time) but it’s close. Not including fluid.

I could buy an entire bushing kit, aftermarket two blocks away for $25.

So tell me, what’s wrong with that picture.

Same deal with 4L60E bushings. Most all bushings, you had to buy the entire component to get the bushing.

For some time now. Service replacement transmission assembly. Known as SERTA has been and I quote, Remanufactured for General Motors, from previously used parts.

In other words.. the cheapest person rebuilt the transmission you just bought. SERTA was once a replacement you could trust. Now we call them. Sorry Roger, Try Again.

Planned Obsolescence. Nothing built to last from cars to refrigerators... a friend has a refrigerator in his garage as his handy go to that he bought in 1947... still running great...

He is saying what we all have been feeling from observation. All you have to do is watch YouTube videos from mechanic shops.
