The overarching plot of this movie of how Blanc is just over complicating things in his head because he had trouble understanding dumb people is such a fresh take on a detective movie

This may be a little thing, but to me it says so much about Duke's character that he never goes anywhere without his gun, but doesn't think to bring an epipen

Also the reason the tone feels different is Blanc was in serious detective mode for Knives Out, but for Glass Onion he is playing a character just like Helen, he is upping the country bumpkin to disarm the other guests and get them to talk. They can’t suspect in the slightest that he is there investigating them. That’s why he uses “Andy” to stir the pot.

One thing I love, they never state it, but they repeatedly establish a reason why her notebook was able to stop the bullet. The ammo was wet. They show him in the pool, gun fully submerged. Later they show Miles hid the gun in a watery ice bucket. Most bullets arent wateerproof. Wet or damp ammo can lower bullet velocity. The window and notebook together were enough to stop the slowed bullet.

"This can't Shazam, it's a lamp." A phrase that no one 10 years ago or 100 years from now will be able to decipher

The long "destruction" scene reproduces Miles' speech about breaking things that nobody cares about and escalating to destroying the thing nobody wants broken. Also <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLryVODxORA&t=396">6:36</a> that's what she said

The gag behind Derol: he's constantly carrying around a case of Corona and insisting that the others "pretend he's not there".

I think those two "clunky" scenes were actually the most important. They're the ones where you're convinced nothing is going on but they recieve the <i>most</i> recontextualization with the non-linear story-telling. I don't think the movie was making fun of itself either, but the idea of great man theory, which is the main bias that keeps you from recognizing the obvious, the murders are incredibly simple and Bron is incredibly stupid.<br><br>Also, the random guy was a joke about coronavirus, he's carrying Corona beers at all times and keeps insisting you just forget about him throughout since the movie wanted to tell the story without considering the biggest thing in the world at the time which would date it.

I only just now realized that Blanc tells Helen "Miles Braun is not an idiot," but declares at the end of the mystery, "Miles Braun is an idiot!"<br><br>It's like poetry. It rhymes.

Keep in mind that the reason why the Mona Lisa ended up in danger was because Miles set up the override switch (which the insurance company didn't know about. Good luck trying to collect that insurance!). If it wasn't for his arrogance, it would have been safe.

The clunky scenes were intentional because they were trying to conceal something in plain sight from the characters and to an extent the audience.. In the first one it shows Miles handing Duke the glass, but because everyone is so busy, no one noticed it happened. In the second one, it is assumed at that point Miles won and Helen was just lashing out in frustration. That's why no one tried to stop her, and even joined in. They didn't pick up on her plan to take that win from Miles, or at least turn it into a Pyrrhic victory.

I actually liked this movie more than Knives Out, it took me a bit to really understand the comparisons being made though.<br><br>The "Glass Onion" implies something that seems complex on it's surface, but in reality is transparently simple. This applies to the movie's mystery as a whole, but I most like that comparison toward Miles Bron and billionaires as a whole. As a society we almost worship billionaires as these elite geniuses who did impossible we plebs could never understand, when in reality they're usually fairly bland, average intelligence people who were at the right place at the right time. We attribute to them layers of great complexity due to their wealth, but when you really look inside they're just simple people not deserving of special praise.
