Back when I made this video, my channel name was “Look, It’s Baseball” – obviously a much better fit for this video than “Mellow History”. Hope you enjoy it nonetheless :)

Rico carty knew he had to "hit his way off the island" 😂We need a good biography on this character.

As a Domincan I’m so proud of to see this story from one of our great baseball players ever!

A great hitter but a weirdo nut job. Terrible defensive player and anyone who would punch Henry Aaron is an idiot.

In 1970, when the all-star vote was returned to the fans, Rico
was voted to the NL all stars as a
write in candidate.

One of the purest hitters, I moved to Georgia in 1967 and got to see Rico hit for the Braves. Some of the longest singles ever recorded Rico knees kept him from recording more extra base hits. The ball jumped off his bat. Back then the trajectory was not like the moonshots we see now, especially Hank Aaron hits would fly out of the lauching pad (Fulton County Stadium).

Rico was one of the few guys to hit a ball over the CF fence at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. Rico was great with kids, he would sign autographs after the games and we kids loved him.

I remember him from when I was a kid, he had a strange batting stance, aiming his bat toward the pitcher.

Great mini-documentary, great job, but forgot to mention that Carty played for two teams in Venezuela. He batted 397 for one of those teams. He also helped the Dominican Republic win the Caribean Series in Venezuela, where he hit 5 home runs.

The Dominican baseball players' experience is very different than the American experience during their childhood. I invite you to do a video on the life of Julio Franco and Tony Fernández, their lives stories are perfect for a movie script. Dominican players do not exagerate when they talk about their rough childhood and learning to play baseball with home made baseballs, gloves, baseball bats, broken shoes and playing in crazy dangerous terrain and narrow alleys.
