Dame Maggie and Whoopi remained very close until Maggie's death. Whoopi was in London with Maggie when her mother passed, and it was Maggie who got her the last-minute flight back and took care of everything for her to get her to the airport

The Catholic Church's reception of the Sister Act movies was generally positive, with many finding them to be a fun and lighthearted, if not entirely accurate, portrayal of religious life. While some found the movies to be a caricature of nuns, others appreciated the positive message of community and finding one's voice.
