Gas boiler vs immersion heater - part 1 - which costs more to run for hot water?

  I use an lpg combi boiler. I decided to add a 250litre super insulated cylinder. Second hand £180. I then took the cold feed to the bottom.of the cylinder and put the top hot water to the boiler supply.  I purchased a solar diverter basically an iboost and I now have 250 lit of hot water free every day that feeds the boiler when I call for hot water. I have saved 50% . Comming to winter i still will be supply warmer water to my boiler and this will use less gas. So far it's working well.

  Thank you for this video. I’ve lived in houses with storage heating and off peak hot water. It’s hideously expensive and very inefficient. You run out of hot water in the early evening. Putting the immersion heater on again is very expensive. The heating was also useless. I use oil now which even at today prices combined with the electricity I use is half the price of a full electric home 10 years ago. An as for immersion heaters, they are so unreliable! I used to have to change them every couple of years. I’m sure you have a better insulated tank though. Thanks again.

  Tim, have you done a video about one of those things that use the solar power left to heat the water ???  I’m thinking about getting one if it is worth it.  I hate the thought of loosing all of that solar that goes back to the grid during the day.  Hope you answer

  I’m trying to work this out now.   We have solar panels that help supply electric during the day I think it’s a  3.6kw system so I’m wondering if it best to leave the hot immersion heater on to heat water rather than using gas.  What do you think ?   Shall I try a month each way to see what the difference is ?

  Hi <br>I have a combo boiler and big white immersion tank . My tank is switched off . And my combi boiler is always used for how water &amp; heat . <br>Do I need to put it on or shall I just leave it switched off unless my boiler packs in

  Im looking to change the digital time switch to a wifi enabled time switch. <br>I have a Boiler that is For heating only - it heats a Tenenmant Building. <br>Right now we use the Drayton Time Switch Lp722 7-day Programmer, which every week we have to go manually and adjust depending on the weather or if the building is occupied. I&apos;m Looking to replace this with something that i can control with my phone through WIFI - So if I need to put the heating on or off or set times I can do this from wherever I am. We don&apos;t require a thermostat as this building is old and draughty and we have several floors and many rooms <br>(B and B). question is do I need and electrician or plumber? and where can i find a new switch?
