  In this one I was swinging my all-time favourite 10&apos; Shimano Dialuna rod matched to a 3000-size Shimano Vanford reel spooled with 10 pound Kairiki braid attached to a 16 pound Ocea FC leader.<br><br>Also, as promised, here&apos;s Jo&apos;s awesome Smoked Salmon Dip recipe:<br><br>INGREDIENTS:<br>Philadelphia Cream Cheese<br>Smoked Australian salmon<br>Juice of one lemon or lime<br>Finely chopped red onion<br>Fresh chili to taste<br>Fresh garlic to taste<br>Fresh chives to taste<br>Cracked black pepper to taste<br><br>METHOD:<br>Strip the smoked fish from the skin, taking care to remove all bones and scales before placing the flesh in a large mixing bowl.<br>Use a fork to shred the fish.<br>Add all the other ingredients. Allow the cheese to soften, then mix thoroughly with a fork.<br>Dip is ready to eat immediately.<br>Can be wrapped in waxed baking paper and frozen for future use inside airtight ziplock bags (remove as much air as possible before sealing and freezing).<br>Aside from being a delicious dip, this is fabulous as a steak topper, stirred through hot pasta, served on toast under a poached egg.<br><br>(To see HOW I smoke my fish, watch this one: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW5gm3HGCAY">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW5gm3HGCAY</a> )

  G’day starlo, this video is a banger. 👍 Reminds me of when I caught 2 Aussie salmon on 10lb braid 😂. Can’t go wrong with the fight they provide, especially on the boat when they circle it over and over.

  Thanks for naming them as Kahawai, I have been watching you and Roger for a while and thought the Australian salmon looked like Kahawai , good to know that the technique will work for me in New Zealand too. Cheers

  Interesting what you experienced with the lures vs bait on this particular day. I recall many years ago when I was fishing at Tura Beach on the Sapphire Coast and I was using bait and fishing the traditional Victorian way…..double patternoster rig with a star sinker. A friend of mine was a devotee of lures (he actually introduced me to soft plastic fishing) and he was tossing metal lures for the salmon. This particular session saw me landing many salmon and at times “double headers” of 1.5 to 2kg fish….very exciting. For my friend, it was a little frustrating as he was tossing those lures right in the same area I was tossing the baits and he failed to hook up. These sessions at times don’t make sense but shows it is important to go prepared to pivot if needed. Thanks for sharing Steve and Tight Lines.
