I own a 72 plate 64KWh Kona Premium. I charged up overnight on Friday for a Torquay -> Reading -> London trip (230 miles). Being a numpty, I forgot to change the “max charge limit” setting, so I only had 80% charge for the journey. Undeterred, I set off (M5, M4, M25, A3), motorway at 70 mph, and arrived at my destination with 30 miles range remaining. Incredible car. I love it.

My 2015 24kwh Nissan Leaf has long since passed the 8 year, 100,000 miles warranty limits and has had no issues with the drive train. I've hired a Kona EV in the past and it was brilliant. Practical, spacious, easy to drive, 280-300 miles range all day and the lane keeping and adaptive cruise control together were so good it was almost like a self driving car. Yes, used EVs are the best bargains on the market. As Andy said, they are often as good as new even at seven years old.

The only thing with the model 3 that puts me off vs other options is the lack of any extended warranty. For 2nd hand money you're looking at the earlier model 3s before they had the big facelift which massively improved the build quality across the board. Couple that with the universal modern car problem of manufacturers wanting CRAZY money to fix basically ANYTHING that goes wrong out of warranty and it's a bit worrying. Steering rack known issue can cost several THOUSAND to fix. Suspension knuckles common issue, again easily over a thousand for repair. Repair costs like these might not faze someone buying a very expensive 2nd hand car, but when we're talking about cheaper 2nd hand cars, the idea of possibly spending this much money on repairs seems kinda ridiculous.

It's not just a tesla issue, just a modern/luxury car thing in general. If you buy 1 still within its 3/4 year new warranty, Polestar offer a 3 year extended warranty for around a grand that covers everything. Toyota now do 10 years warranty for free with servicing. Peugeot do 8 years the same way. Renault and Skoda also sell reasonably priced extended warranties & Kia & MG have the remainder of the 7 year warranty on used cars for free.

With the complexity of modern EVs I personally think when shopping for "good value 2nd hand cars" the availability of a good warranty is right up near the top of the priority list nowadays.

I have a Kona, too. Great range, and noo drama (so far anyway).

I had a Kona as my first EV. 64kWh facelift on a 21 plate, it was for work so that 200+ real world range that was the main draw. Such a great car! I’d highly recommend. It’s not the best at anything, but it is good at everything!

The boot, could be bigger but it’s big enough for 99% of the time

The rear leg room, could be bigger but for 99% of trips it’s fine

However it’s easy to park and manoeuvre, range is phenomenal for the money, app is easy, and (touch wood) in nearly 80k miles had nothing serious, literally “worst” fault was the clip of the washer pipe came off so the rear window wouldn’t squirt… but it was an easy fix (under warranty anyway but even if it wasn’t a silver clip ain’t expensive lol)

Shout out for the Kona! I did 110k in ours on the original brakes and it gave me zero headaches....and it's fast, but don't tell anyone.
