  If it were me, I think I would like to acknowledge my English roots, but I would also want my daughter to appreciate her own very deep roots in Canada and Ireland.

  Some people here have a hard time understanding when jokes are told with a straight face. That's her thing. She jests a lot, but if you pay attention to her comments, specifically about her grandma, it is clear she's been carrying that guilt of not visiting her in her last days and not saying her "I love you," so I do think this program was her love letter to her grandma and I love it for Katherine.

  Her personality is her armor. In trying to be funny, she actually displays her insecurity. She is a tough cookie. Obvious she adores her daughter Violet, and in her sarcastic dramatic way, wants everyone to know she is confident and in control, though &nbsp;arguementive and intense. <br>It was not a very tactful way to interact with historians who actually displayed far more respect than she did, let alone knowledge of the era and culture. Although I am sure she would contend with my opinion. 😂 There was so much history in her Canadian roots, including Ireland glossed over. That was sad.

  I don’t think she understood that her four times great grandfather James when he said that he didn’t want to visit his mother because It would have been too hard to come see her and then leave.

  You were so intent on finding English blood that you ignored the fact that all of your lines but one went back to Ireland. In each pint of your blood are one or two drops of English, the rest is Irish.

  I think that many are being too hard on Katherine here. I do think she was excited to learn about her ancestors. She even said that she had no idea how influential some were and she felt much more connected to Canada than she had before. I think her way of adding to the story when reading the letters was an interesting take. For example when she described the copied book of letters and poems as her 4x great grandmother taking snapshots of his texts was interesting. Technology changes, but human emotions and sentiments remain the same. I don’t think she was trying to be disrespectful. She was trying to relate to them.

  My great grandmother was from Halifax, Nova Scotia and my great grandfather was from Bonivista, Newfoundland. My earlier ancestors probably mingled with her ancestors. She has such rich history and I love the painted portraits of her ancestors. Not many of us are that lucky.

  It always makes me chuckle, how there&apos;s this misconception, that people in &nbsp;the old days, knew nothing about what would happen after marriage. Especially, given how ginormous their families were.<br> All those babies &quot;made&quot;, and born at home. They&apos;d have to have been blind, and deaf, not to figure out at least the basics.

  It&apos;s interesting that she says Giles Hosier was the first to come to Canada, when he married into a family that was already there and already had an established fishing room. I would have been very interested to see how far back she could go in Canada and if some of her ancestors were among the very first settlers.
