Playing Windows games, in Ubuntu, on a Mac. What a time to be alive.

It's funny, 16 years later there are cheap chromebooks with similar performance, worse displays, fewer ports, worse speakers, and less freedom for OS choice.

Grabbing an ancient free MacBook isn't a bad idea.

I took me decades to realize one of my hobbies is installing operating systems. Just that, installing operating systems. Thank you for sharing.

Literally just finished installing Linux Mint on my 17" 2011 MBP since Windows 10 was killed, then this video pops up. This world is weird.

Reminder that computers don't actually slow down or become less useful over time, it's only that software 'changes' to run slowly on it. It used to be for adding all kinds of features and graphics. Now it's just because software has become bloated slop where you need tons of RAM and CPU to load basic web pages that are no better than they were when they ran well.

I just put Linux Mint 22.2 on a 2014 Alienware 14 and it uses the same wi-fi chipset requiring the same interactions as Ubuntu 25.10 on this 2011 MBP. With both Microsoft and Apple continuously pushing for older but still very much usable hardware to be obsoleted by their OS's, these modern desktop Linux distributions are the heroes we deserve

My aunt "threw away" her 2012 MacBook because it was "obsolete*. I recovered, installed an SSD, 8 gigs of RAM, and installed Linux Mint. Boom, better than new.

I have a loaded 27" iMac from 2011 with a 3.4 GHz Core i7 Sandy Bridge and a Radeon HD 6970M with 2GB of VRAM. It's been sitting in a corner of my basement collecting dust for several years, but I've been meaning to power it up and archive some home videos and old documents that are on it. One day soon, I'll swap in an SSD, max out the RAM, and install Ubuntu on it to bring it back to life!

3:48 Apple introduced the Force Touch trackpad with haptic feedback to MacBook Pro in 2015. The one you're using was introduced in 2008, it's the buttonless glass trackpad that clicks via a hinge mechanism.
