  The way this place was run by the state was insane (no pun intended.) It is so sad what happened here. I know mental illness wasn’t fully understood, but driving icepicks into someone’s brain by a deranged wanna be doctor wasn’t the answer. Many, if not all of these people needed medical and psychological treatment, and the state, judicial system and common human decency failed them miserably. I hate to even imagine some of the atrocities that occurred here. God bless those who suffered this type of hell.

  I came upon this place in maybe 2012 while on a road trip off the interstates.  There were workmen busy in the entryway, so I walked up and asked about it.  They allowed me to look inside and take a peek from the main entrance down the extending halls.  I hear that one can now tour the facility, so I’d like to return some day.  It’s on my bucket list.

  The outstanding photos of the interior/exterior of the dilapidated buildings, along with your choice of music, created a somber and melancholy mood that brought tears to my eyes.  What came to mind was the title of a Smashing Pumpkins album called "Melloncollie and the Infinite Sadness."  You did a wonderful job and just gained a new subscriber.  Greetings from Buffalo, New York.

  Sad to hear how many ppl were put in these places that did not need to be there and we're medicated for no reason  causing some of them to take their lives 😢🙏🙏🙏
