My paternal grandma died there. When I drive by there, I always say a prayer for the souls who experienced those walls.

I spent half my life helping the mentally ill and developmentally disabled reach the highest ability they could achieve. Those were the best years of my life. It wasn't just about helping them. I was fortunate enough to be brought into their world. I learned a lot and through them I learned about myself. I owe them

My Great-Grandma was sent here. She passed away while there. She had 2 Son's that were raised by my Great-Great Grandparents. <br>Her name was Jenny Malone. We have no records of what Ward she lived in or and no medical records of her diagnosis or treatment

c. 1930-1945 My MUM was working the State Hospital for years in the Housekeeping department. Me MUM said she always had a <br>'friendly violent patient with her when she had to work the voilent wards, as a 'body guard' <br>I learned much later that most of the Staff of State Hospitals were in the belief that patients were fakers, and tortured them to make them give it up. <br>That realization led to closing of many Asylums. The staff themselves were crazy. <br>As a firewatchman in the c. 1970 I overheard a conversation among staff in another hospital, they ALL had a family member committed, and they all agreed that anyone who so much as mentioned wanting a weapon permit were crazy.<br><br>It is true, without a uniform or lanyard ID you cannot tell a patient from staff.

I was a highschool volunteer at a state hospital in Minnesota in the 1970s. I will never forget Tony, a sweet soul who sang "You are my Sunshine" outside the volunteer dormitory every morning. The staff and volunteers will never forget the individuals who touched their lives.

Part of the reason I think for the hauntings at these old asylums...no one was ever held accountable for what transpired behind those doors, and society wants to forget what happened

This is sick and heartbreaking. My heart goes out to all that suffered with tears in my eyes🙏
