The next time you come, do the tree carving tour in your car. During Hurricane Ike, I think it was, many trees were destroyed. Local artists used the existing tree trunks to carve wonderful things. It’s really unique! And the architecture of the old homes is great to explore!

I remember one summer Saturday night we drove from Houston to Galveston and took the ferry to Bolivar to go eat at the Stingray. We finished about 9 pm and headed back to the ferry. The line was so long, we didn't get on until almost 1 am. Of course had we known that ahead of time, we would have made the drive across Bolivar and up to IH 10 and come home that way.

Your last two videos really hit me hard. My mother was born and raised in Galveston, from 1943 until she joined the Army at 19.

I’ve slept on that beach - in a tent. I’ve been all over that island, and I love the Strand. Getting out to the Western part of the island you would see the stilt houses and a rural beach that somehow is unique to Texas.

The sea wall is South of the road (closer to the beach) for most of the city, but on the East it’s a 45 degree wall to your North. My mother freaked my brother and I out one visit when she slipped out of character and started driving on the wall itself. Growing up here, listening to Elvis and Buddy Holly, it’s what the kids did. What a rebel.

The curbs are high for water drainage - the history of hurricanes on the island can be seen in storm drains bigger than anything I’ve seen anywhere else. My mom was into genealogy and history, and visited Galveston frequently in the 90s looking up information on microfilm that hadn’t made it to the Internet. She published her own website with her research (she had been a computer programmer in the 60s).

My mom passed away on January 28th of this year - likely less than a month before your visit. You’ve convinced me that I’ll be dragging my 5th wheel down to Galveston some time in the near future. Thank you so much for this.

I’ve got something in my eye.

Born and raised in Houston and can’t wait to full time in other places, however Galveston does have a beauty about it. The water isn’t as clear as other Texas beaches, but the history runs deep. It was the last place in America the messengers came to tell everyone that the salves were free. It was on June 19th there on The Strand, hence those murals about equality you filmed. The great storm of 1900 just about wiped out the city, but it built back up in a beautiful way. Thanks for reminding us locals of the gem we do have.

There is a quiet and resilient beauty in Galveston. Wade fishing there is the best 🎣. I even saw dolphins one day while wade fishing...it was awesome.

My wife and I were the first people to get engaged on pleasure Pier in Galveston when it opened. I had them stop the ferris wheel at the very top, got on a knee, nearly tilted the car too far. It was fun got it on video. As a kid I once rode the ferry 22 crossings for fun 😅

Native Houstonian here.. Yes, Galveston can bring a person a lot of peace as long as you don't camp during Mardi Gra or Spring Break. Also.. It is one of the ugliest beaches in the civilized world.

I live in Galveston. Sort of interesting to see it from fresh eyes. So many little details I just gloss over because I see it all the time.
