We've been full time RVing for 5 years and had a few minor incidents and two larger ones. We drive an F350 diesel dually towing a 35 ft 5th wheel. Both larger accidents were slow speed (like 2 mph). We snagged a small tree with our 5th wheel's rear bumper, pulled half the rear wall off. The second one, we were in a hurry (bad move) and didn't swing wide enough in a tight spot. That one only had inconvenient damage, it didn't stop our travel day. We drive 65 mph max, though the reminder does me good! Thanks for this video! We've paid for backing up lessons too.

Great information. And you are right. With every purchase there should be a training course that gets completed. It’s shocking how easy it is to just go and attach objects of this type to your vehicle and just get right out onto the road.

I evaluated multiple trailers and my payload was my Achilles heel. Finally found the one unit that gives me significant margin on all metrics. I figure it gives me a much higher chance of having successful rv road trips.

This convinced me that, for me, a trailer or RV is definitely something I don't want to own. Being able to travel without spending a lot of money on hotels is attractive. My primary reason for not buying them is cost. They are so expensive, the cost plus maintenance, far exceeds what I would spend on hotels for the amount of traveling I currently do. Couple that with the reduced handling when towing a trailer, plus the limited experience I would get actually towing, and my doubt of buying or not buying is easily answered, which is it is not worth the added cost or added risk. This has been very helpful for me. I hope it helps others that actually do like to travel with trailers and RV's.

Excellent video. Twice as good as any other video I have seen on the subject. I will add some things:
1. When things start feeling a little unstable, some people start driving faster. It is a natural reaction. Their destination is the safe place that will ultimately get them out of the situation. Driving faster gets them to their safe space faster. Fight that instinct with knowledge.
2. When loading your trailer, not only do you need to place the items to get the proper tongue weight, but you need to avoid putting all of the weight at the very front and very back in the process. The issue is something called polar inertia. Try to get the weight closer to the axles while following the rest of the advice in this video.
3. Airbags are not a substitute for weight distribution equipment on a travel trailer (I am not talking about a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer). Leveling the tow vehicle with airbags will return the steering to the correct geometry, but it will not return the weight on the front of the tow vehicle to where it needs to be. Proper weight distribution equipment does both at the same time.
4. Match the length of the tow vehicle to the length of the trailer. A really long trailer on a really short tow vehicle is much less stable. The reason it works for an 18 wheeler is the pivot point between the truck and trailer is between the rear axles of the truck and the trailer axles are near the back of the trailer.

Very good info. My camper is a 2019 C-Class Jayco 31 Greyhawk w/ 60K miles. My two best tips: one, being passed by a semi at highway speed and the air turbulence…be aware and be prepared. Two, at 45K miles and 4-5 years old the tires look perfectly good but I replaced all 6 anyway. A dry rot blowout can and will rip up the undercarriage. KEEP tire pressure up and even, some over inflating increases fuel efficiency and puts tire wear more to the center tread. Be careful out there!

I think that the reason for trailer sway is because the trailer is going faster than the tow vehicle. The easiest thing to do is to activate the trailer brake while maintaining the tow vehicle speed
