Hi Brian. I just wanted to give a shout-out to your team, specifically Grant and Kay. I just lost my dad, and I wanted to get something suitable to remember him by. He was my 'rock' throughout my life, and I thought the best thing would be the Visconti Home Sapiens pen. I was a bit concerned about such a large purchase online of something I couldn't be sure was without any issues. I explained that to Grant, and he had Kay test the pen for me, which she did, and she even sent me a video. This is what I consider above and beyond normal customer service. I now know I will be getting the pen without anything tainting the experience, and now every time I write with it, I will have fond memories of my dad, my 'rock'.

About the paper shoot out. Do something fun, involving your team and their experience. Perhaps get five people from your team, each with five paper brands, the three basic nib types — fine, medium, broad one Japanese and another European, using two or three ink types, such as drier, wetter and so on. Put everyone writing the same sentence with all the variations of paper, nibs, and inks, grading each experiment with an agreed system. Even though it will have the unpredictable human factor, personal preferences, and all the good stuff, the average of each grading by category will give us a sense of what is out there to expect. Make a fun video with background music, and some testimonials from the participants, and a summary at the end. I believe you will give us an amazing gift.

Hey Brian! A hypothetical question:
U.S. Secret Service has the largest collection of Ink samples with your collection coming close second😅. Can you imagine a situation for you to be called upon in court (criminal or civil) as an expert witness. If so, what woud the case be? Thanks for keeping great Q&A's coming!

Pilot Prera is my favorite for transplanting an EF nib from a Kakuno or a Penmanship.

Regarding question 1: I have also had pens dry up after a page or two where they would not write anymore, and I would have to force ink into the feed by turning the converter, rinse and repeat. It’s a very frustrating event. Essentially, what is happening is there is an imbalance with the air/ink exchange happening in the feed, and it could be caused by several different things.

For example, the only way I could solve this problem for one of my pens was to remove the converter and fill the pen as an eye dropper. I tried lots of things like swapping converters and even replacing the plastic Jowo feed with an ebonite feed, which initially helped with a wetter ink flow, but the pen still dried up after a page or two. Another time this happened with a different pen: I had just the feed sitting up too far on the nib, so I adjusted it, and it wrote well after that without needing to change anything else.

The troubleshooting step I would always try first is to simply try using a different converter in the pen to make sure it is not the converter that is defective or causing a bad seal around the feed, then try a different ink, and then keep eliminating potential failure points as you go until you get a good result.

Another solution to the EEF issue is to buy whatever pen you like and then take it to a nibmeister and have it ground to a needle point. I did that with one of my Kakanu Sport pens.

Going back to the issue of smoothness, I recently just found out that two pens, same ink, on different paper can feel like polar opposites. I recently bought a Visconti Homo sapien dark crystal from you guys and was testing it against my sailor king of pens 1911. Comparing copy paper to tomoe river, the homo sapien became more smooth and the king of pens became less smooth lol😂
