This has got to be one of the most underrated channels I’ve stumbled across. I was really deep into the history of the First World War a few years ago and it sent me into a “what happened before ____” quest that eventually landed me in the 30 Years War, a topic you covered brilliantly. I’ve actually been curious about Cossacks lately, it’s like you’re reading my mind, haha. Great work, once again. Cheers from Las Vegas.

I've been trying to learn about my heritage more, as my great grandad was a Cossack! I am so grateful for this documentary 🙏❤️

Harshness which they suffered under 20-30 communist regime might be in some part revanchism of certain group of which Cossacks had very low opinion of and actually banned from joining their communities.
Not claiming that it was primary reason or anything, but it might have been additional factor.

The way the Cossacks suffered again, and again, and again, after they stopped supporting the tsar, it almost looks like divine punishment for going back on their oaths.

Any other time or place such a fate would definitely have been considered at such.

There’s an interesting note in Caulaincourt’s memoirs about Napoleon interrogating a Cossack who had lost his horse. This Cossack then began to point out the differences between the Russian army and French army. This cossack particularly struck Caulaincourt as the cossack said the following to Napoleon:

“If Alexander’s Russian soldiers, especially his generals, were like Cossacks, you and your Frenchmen would not be in Russia.”…”If Napoleon had had Cossacks in his army he would have been Emperor of China long ago”…”While the Russians sleep the Cossacks keep watch.”

So on and so on.

His fascination in the King of Naples, Murat, was also interesting.
