  I've wanted to know more about the history of Rhodesia my entire life, and wasted many hours sorting through books & websites with pitifully lacking or outright bad information; then in one lecture with AM is everything I'd always hoped to find.  Highly satisfying & excellent work.

  Christopher Soames - you don’t hate him enough.<br><br>In 1969 Charles De Gaulle realised that the EEC federalists had outmanoeuvred him over the Luxembourg Compromise. So he decided to approach the Brits, proposing an arrangement which would grant them full access to the EEC market without all the political unity stuff. De Gaulle figured that such an a la carte arrangement might weaken the federalists, and might also please the Brits.<br><br>He went secretly to Soames, who was then the UK Ambassador to France. Soames immediately leaked De Gaulle’s proposal to the rest of the EEC, forcing De Gaulle to withdraw the offer. Later, when the UK fully joined the EEC in 1973, Soames was rewarded by the EEC by being given a Commissioner job.

  I know a Xhosa lady whose entire family fled Rhodesia because Mugabe, who was Shona, persecuted the Xhosa. Her family had fought alongside the whites for the government against ZANU to try to avoid a Mugabe led government.
