"Pride (In the Name of Love)" by U2, while inspired by Martin Luther King Jr., explores the broader themes of non-violent resistance, the struggle for equality, and the enduring power of love and sacrifice in the face of adversity.

"One man betrayed with a kiss" references Jesus being betrayed by Judas. It's about people willing to give all, in some cases their actual lives, in the name of love of mankind in general.

One man caught on a barbed wire fence (East German man who tried to escape to West Germany, killed while climbing over the barbed wire) one man washed on an empty beach, (Wheel chair-bound Jewish man who was killed and pushed off a cruise liner and his body washed ashore days later). The line 'early morning April 4th, should read 'early evening, April 4th' as the time when MLK was shot and killed. Bono fixed the lyric on the acoustic version of the song and sometimes in concert.

This is the U2 I fell in love. Their music was so powerful back in the early 80's. And yes, Bono and U2 were very political and progressive with their views which aligned with what I believed.

Yes, U2 are political, they're humanitarians and activists. Their music, as wonderful as it is sonically, always rings with truth. They are world treasures.

When this song was popular, MLK day was not a federal holiday. It was really nice to hear him sing about it back it then.

Bono is an activist for peace and humanity. This song was inspired by MLK but also has references to Jesus and Judas and people who stand up to tyranny.

They played this in the 80s and there were threats to assassinate Bono, they tried to get U2 to cancel because of this song but they still played the gig, when Bono performed this song Adam the bassist stood in front of him..

Oh! Before I forget - and you're gonna trip on this one - when some state was having some kinda problem with MLK Jr. Day becoming a thing (maybe it was AZ?) Bono's life was threatened if the band did this song onstage that night. There was talk of cancelling the show, and so on. Bono (and the band behind him) decided not to disappoint fans, nor compromise what they believed, and to go ahead and go onstage and to do the song.

Bono said that when it was time to do the song, he just closed his eyes and started. When he opened them, the bass player, Adam, was standing right in front of him while playing his bass. 😲

Bono is a longtime activist in the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa and the co-founder of ONE and (RED). They are bi-partisan and he worked with Pres. George W. Bush and the most conservative reps in Congress (incl. Jesse Helms) to "back-door" (precisely because of the politicization of AIDS at the time), research funding that led directly to treatments for AIDS that literally have saved millions of lives. U2 is truly best experienced live, this is one of their best songs, but the official studio videos just don't do them justice. Thanks for doing this reaction, reading the comments my fellow viewers of yours get it. U2 is a spiritual journey not to be taken lightly. ❤🔥:hands-yellow-heart-red:
