I'm more than old enough to retire. Many years ago I was taught by an old country smith. Started making simple things like hooks, chain, and gate hinges. Learned to smelt ore, make wrought iron, and make carbon steel. Learned to temper and harden steel. Learned to make scale drawings and templates.
Sure, I can make decorative or artistic pieces. But, as I teach the next generation, I teach the old ways as well as newer techniques.
I teach how to read drawings and blueprints.
Today, a smith also has to be a machinist and engineer.

As an apprentice blacksmith myself, I'm proud to learn an ancient honest craft. I'm almost flattered by your words though...😅

As an ACTUAL modern blacksmith, this just seemed lazy and filled with AI trash!! Haha you basically repeated the same things over and over but called them different things Lol in short, the world would NOT be the world without blacksmiths. Even still today, we fix your broken swords and reweld your plows. OR you buy more cheap Chinese replacements Lol

nowadays Industrial forging is still a vital aspect of modern life and without it the world would not look the same, so blacksmiths (as much it hurts the pride of most to be called out on this) are just as popular a trade now more then ever.

They DID NOT , make tools by casehardening iron! Now they probably did make steel by soaking iron in an air-starved fire. The Japanese did it. But steel made that way is brittle. YOu have to beat it out, fold it over, forge weld it, over and over . What they usually did was forge weld strips of iron and strips of steel together and make tools and weapons out of that.Or they'd forge weld a steel edge to an iron core.

I can't. All these AI images of blacksmiths with fires burning out of their anvils is driving me batty.
