Navy vet from 84-88. Filed for disability in 22, one claim approved, got 10%. Filed claims again a year later, all denied. Hired a VA lawyer and now I’m at 90%. The VA wants us to get discouraged and go away, don’t give up!

Went to my local VSO in hellinois and was told by the rep that it was no use to try to file a claim. Went across the river to Iowa and he put in a claim. 80% on first try with no C&P exams at all. All VSO's are not the same.

Served 1981 to 1984. Cold War vets get shafted all the time. Diabetic now. They say it's not service connected.

We were told back in the 1980s that without an ETS physical, we wouldn't qualify for VA benefits. I held onto that belief for years and didn't get a physical when I was discharged in 1998, largely because accessing VA benefits felt like navigating a maze of gatekeepers. I'm finally rated 100% P&T and have received several years of back pay. I should have been collecting these benefits 25 years ago.

I was exposed to Agent Orange at Ft.McClellan Alabama (now a super fund site) in 1980 and again in Korea (DMZ) from 1980-1981 and the VA acknowledged this but still denied my claims for hypertension. They just don't want to pay. Additionally, the government won't add these locations to the PACT act. Instead, they have you add yourself to a toxic health registry.
