  At least 14 women throughout the Bible righteously taught men, preached to men, prophesied to men, and/or led men. <br>Even Paul, the source of both complementarian alleged proof-texts, gave instructions to the Corinthian women how to prophesy in church! Prophecy is teaching!<br>And Paul worked alongside Priscila, whom the Bible says taught Apollos how to preach better! <br><br>In light of those facts, I understand 1 Timothy 2:11-12 to be Paul saying women have to be under male authority when they teach and preach. <br>And clearly, in 1 Corinthians 14:33-35, Paul was telling women--who usually were uneducated and illiterate in that time and place--to stop loudly asking questions during church meetings. “If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home” is what Paul said. <br> <br>Do we pluck out our eyes when they cause us to sin? Twice in the Bible Jesus told us to! But we don’t do it because the rest of the Bible sheds light on those two passages. If we only had those two verses, we would have no choice but to pull out our eyes when they lead us astray. In the same way, 1 Corinthians 14 and 1 Timothy 2 must be understood in the context of the rest of Paul’s writings as well as the rest of the Bible.<br> <br>“But the Bible says a deacon must be ‘faithful to his wife!’” <br>This is because men usually were teachers and leaders then. Especially since most women in those days could not even read. (Today, in most countries, women tend to be more educated than men!) Obviously there were far more male leaders than female in the Bible. But those 14 (at least) exceptions tell us that God approves of female teachers and leaders, as long as they are under the male leadership of the church.

  In 1 Corinthians, Paul was specifically addressing the use of head coverings and proper conduct for men and women during public worship. It has nothing to do with women in positions of leadership. Not sure what the point of including this was. In fact, Paul starts by saying in verse 3, right after his greetings, that the man is the head of the woman. Why skip that verse?

  God speaks through male and female. There are many women preachers who are following their calling and doing Kingdom work. I hope to see more women preachers and pastors. Lisa and John are fantastic and have literally changed the trajectory of my life. Thank you!
