This video is "It's obvious you've never kicked a ball in your life" but backed by actual arguments, and I'm here for it.

One thing that is very eye opening is seeing footage of your own play. How much slower the game seems on video compared to when you were playing is astounding.

when you watch planes fly overhead they look slow but they are moving 500 miles an hour, this is the same thing. all about perspective

They should just play with 3rd person view turned on, it'd be much easier to see things around them

Playing even at the bottom/amateur level (like myself) gives you more perspective, how hard it is to do everything right. Split second decisions, pitch awareness and shooting/passing in full sprint make the difference. Not to mention speed and endurance of a 90 minute game.

The composure these pros have is unreal at times. Receiving the ball under pressure, making a mistake but having to still play as if that never happened, and tiredness too. It's crazy. Yet well sit in our seats and be like... I'd have made that pass all day😂. Sometimes I feel for them and the keepers too.

This is also why Messi was soo good. People who watched him live said, he's so unbelievably fast compared to other players, except that he also has the ball glued to his ankles and can change directions in a split second.

He was basically to professionals, what professionals are to us.

I watched that pov cam video of Youri Tielemans and that's when I knew professional football is hard. Bro was having like 3 seconds with the ball before he was pressed.

Anyone who's ever been to a game knows this...watching from the stands the game looks like organised chaos compared to the 'beautiful game' we see on TV

And then they say "I could do that", "I could score that" and "how did he go pro I am better than him".

I was comfortably one of the best players for my amateur team as a youth and even one of the best the league I was playing in. I went on trial with a League One level pro team at U16 age group. What surprised me at the time was the difference in pace of the game. I went from having a few seconds on the ball and being able to turn and pick out passes in amateur football, to suddenly always having on my back pressurising my first touch every time I received it. Suddenly I was concentrating on getting my first touch right, something I never had to consider at amateur level. Same thing with simple passes, at amateur level you can get a pass slightly wrong and it will still came off, but at pro level a slightly inaccurate pass will get intercepted, so you have to concentrate harder on that too. This all means your mind is working much harder than it normally would just to do the basics well, and then you factor in the fact that the pace of the game is 30-40% faster as well with a lot more high intensity sprints. Between your mind working harder and the high intensity sprints you tire so much faster, and then decision making gets even more difficult. I was used to playing a full 90 at a canter, and now I was burning out after around 30 minutes. I worked the hardest I ever worked in these training sessions and matches just to put in 5/10 or 6/10 performances, which wasn't good enough. Other lads who had been in the system for years could do all the simple stuff without even thinking, and were conditioned for the intensity of matches. I stayed with the club for 12 weeks but in the end I was let go, and in the end I just felt I simply wasn't on their level when it came to professionalism. I may have had more natural talent than some of them, but they were finely honed athletes compared to me. The mad thing is no one in the squad even made it as a pro at League Two level or above! Just shows how hard it is!

One interesting thing that came out of it for me was experiencing the sharpness that 12 weeks of training at professional standards gave me when I returned to amateur level. I remember in my first game back I came on for the last 5 minutes of the game and I scored twice and set up another. Each time I received the ball I created a goal, receiving the ball around 30 metres from goal and just feeling like I was in oceans of space. Dribbling around everyone felt so easy, it was like I was juiced. I was thinking so much faster than everyone else on the pitch and my reactions and speed of action were also much faster. The sad thing was I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it up once I left the intensity of the pro environment. Week on week that sharpness gradually left me until I got used to the pace of the amateur game again and I returned to being the player I was before. In the end it was an eye opening experience that showed me levels and made me appreciate just how much harder the senior elite game is, especially in this modern era. They are like robots, aliens, freaks from another universe. It's incredible really
